HANCOCK COUNTY — An Indianapolis man facing multiple drug crimes, including two different Level 3 felony charges of dealing drugs, had his case close via a plea agreement late last week in Hancock County Circuit Court.
Michael J. Love, 39, 2900 block of Carnaby Street, was facing eight charges in all, but had all but one of the charges dismissed after officials from the prosecutor’s office say they took a second look at the case. Judge Scott Sirk accepted the plea agreement, Thursday, May 20, court records show.
As part of the plea agreement, Love admitted guilt to a Level 5 felony count of possession of methamphetamine while seven other charges, including the two Level 3 felonies and a Level 6 felony auto theft, charge were dismissed.
Love was given a six-year term for the Level 5 felony crime with the executed portion equating to time served. He received credit for 503 days of time served while the remaining 1,687 days were suspended to formal probation.
According to a probable cause affidavit, Love was originally arrested in May of 2022 after he was pulled over for driving a reported stolen vehicle. The jeep was reported stolen earlier in May of 2022 with Love listed as the suspect, the report stated. A search of the truck where Love was seen tossing items revealed 2.6 grams of a substance that field-tested for cocaine, white rock that field tested for cocaine, 6.3 grams of white crystals that field-tested positive for meth, and two green pills that Love later admitted were ecstasy, the affidavit said.
During an interview with officials, Love said he had four kids to take care of and that he was a marijuana dealer because he needed the money, the report stated. He also admitted to being more of a “middleman” for the harder drugs like cocaine and meth, the report stated.
