A 26-hit attack led to a 15-14 victory for Mt. Vernon Marauders Black 8U travel baseball team over top-seeded BAM-Gold 8U in the Calvin Strong Classic held last weekend in Brownstown, Ind.
Mt. Vernon, coached by Brandon Booher, was the No. 3 seed.
To get to the championship game, the Marauders beat No. 2 seed GBC Mavs, from Kentucky. Mt. Vernon won in extra innings on seventh-inning RBI hits from Mason Clark and Sam Doster.
It was the first time the 8U team had reached the championship game.
In the title game, Jaxon Galbraith, Adria DeVries, and Luke Sager led the Marauders with two RBIs each. All players in the Marauder lineup recorded at least one hit.
