MV teacher honored by Ivy Tech
FORTVILLE – Mt. Vernon High School teacher Leah Perry was recently honored by Ivy Tech Community College.
Perry was one of 19 individuals across the state to receive the second annual Excellence in Dual Credit Instruction President’s Award, the highest honor for Ivy Tech dual credit faculty.
Winners were announced in a ceremony June 14 in Indianapolis. Each winner was honored for their excellence in instruction and their positive impact on the dual credit students they served during the 2022-2023 school year, according to a press release.
New principals’ reception coming up
FORTVILLE – The community is invited to greet three new principals of Mt. Vernon schools in an upcoming reception.
The New Principals’ Reception will be 5-7 p.m. July 25 at the Alumni Center of the corporation’s Administrative Service Center, 1806 W. Ind. 234, Fortville (behind Mt. Vernon Middle School).
Cookies and punch will be served for the free event; no reservation is needed. New principals at the event will be Brooke Tharp, Mt. Vernon High School; Dr. Lori Katz, Mt. Vernon Middle School; and Donnie Turner, Mt. Comfort Elementary School.
Schools opening up registration for 2023-2024 year
HANCOCK COUNTY – Local school corporations have announced registration windows for the 2023-2024 school year.
Greenfield-Central registration is July 17-21 online or July 20 in person for current students; new G-C students in kindergarten through eighth grade can register from noon-7 p.m. July 20 at Greenfield Central Junior High School; new high school students can call any time to Stacie Sheffield, 317-462-9211 ext. 34205 or [email protected]. Eastern Hancock registration begins July 19 via Skyward. Out of district students no longer need to fill out a transfer student form, but annual registration is required as it is for all students. Visit easternhancock.org or call 317-936-5444 for details.
Mt. Vernon parents should visit their Skyward Family Access and select “register” for those returning for the 2023-2024 school year. The request is for all returning transfer and out-of-district students who received approval notice in June, as well as incoming kindergarten students who were enrolled in the Mini-Marauder Preschool last year. Applications for out-of-district families are also online, as well as enrollment for Little Dragons Pre-Kindergarten. For returning students, PowerSchool is not open yet to confirm information or pay fees for the upcoming school year; notification will be sent to current families when it is open.
Local college students earn honors
HANCOCK COUNTY – Several universities recently announced students with local ties to honor lists.
Franklin College named Allison Lowe of Greenfield and Ezra Schwier of New Palestine to the president’s list for earning a perfect 4.0 grade point average while completing at least 12 credit hours in the spring semester. Megan Kincaid of Greenfield; Jon Moore of New Palestine; and Samuel Wilson of Greenfield were named to the dean’s list of Franklin College for earning a GPA of 3.5 to 4.0 while completing at least 12 credit hours.
The University of Tampa in Tampa, Fla. named Hannah Nguyen of McCordsville to its dean’s list for the spring 2023 semester. Nguyen is a sophomore majoring in international business and management.
Millikin University in Decatur, Ill. named Rhys Deiter of Fortville to the dean’s list for the spring semester, having earned at least a 3.5 GPA while completing 12 credits.
