Nila Kay Paxton Jeffries was called to her eternal reward on July 6, 2023, at Springhurst Health Care. She was born on March 13, 1942, the fifth child of Paul and Ruth (Beaver) Paxton. She married Philip Jeffries from Wilkinson on July 2, 1961. They met through the Hancock County Rural Youth Program.

Nila grew up on the family farm near McCordsville. She attended McCordsville Schools and graduated from Mount Vernon High School in 1960, after the schools merged. After graduation, she attended Manchester College to study teaching. She later graduated from IUPUI.

She was a Title 2 Aide at Charlottesville Elementary. Later, she did her student teaching at Mount Comfort Elementary. After receiving her Teaching License, she was an elementary teacher with the Lawrence Township School system. She taught at Skiles Test and Crestview Elementary schools. Nila was a long-time member of Shiloh Christian Church, and the Ladies Aid. She served as a Sunday school teacher and as a deaconess. She was an avid sewer and quilter.

She is survived by her sons, Brian (Karen) Jeffries, and Todd (Robin) Jeffries, all of Greenfield; grandchildren, Ashley (Brady), Caleb (Alexandra), Emily (Austin), and Erin (Jimmy); great-grandchildren, Olivia, Beau, and Hazel; brother Raymond Paxton; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Nila was preceded in death by her husband Philip in 2021; her parents; sisters, Wilma Jean Edwards, and Donna J. Mattox; and brother William H. Paxton.

Services will be held on Wednesday, July 12, 2023 at Erlewein Mortuary and Crematory, 1484 W. US Hwy 40, Greenfield, Indiana 46140. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. The funeral service will begin at 1:00 p.m. Burial will follow at Park Cemetery in Greenfield.
