Gibson suffers loss to Yankees

Greenfield’s Kyle Gibson threw a season-high 104 pitches, in six innings, and was the losing pitcher in the Baltimore Orioles’ 8-4 loss to the New York Yankees at Yankee Stadium Tuesday.

Gibson, the 35-year old right-hander in his first season with the Orioles, went six innings and gave up just three hits. He gave up four walks, tying a season high, and struck out four. He gave up four runs, all earned.

After a win on June 11 against the Kansas City Royals to improve his record to 8-3, Gibson has had a pair of no decisions and three losses.

He is 8-6 on the season and tied for the O’s lead in wins with Dean Kremer, who is 8-4. The Orioles are 49-35 on the season and in second place in the American League East Division. They trail division-leader Tampa Bay by six games, but are currently at the top of the AL Wild Card standings.

A 2006 graduate of Greenfield-Central High School, Gibson is scheduled to start Sunday, July 9 in a 2:10 p.m. contest against the Minnesota Twins, in Minnesota. Joe Ryan is the scheduled starter for the Twins.

It’ll be Gibson’s last start before the all-star break.

For the season, Gibson has started 18 games, pitched 102.2 innings and has a 4.73 ERA. He has 78 strikeouts.

An 11-year MLB veteran, Gibson is just three wins away from 100 for his career.
