GREENFIELD — Officials from the Greenfield Police Department say four teenagers have been arrested and GPD detectives continue to investigate after guns and drugs were located in a vehicle during a traffic stop earlier this week.
Detectives are working to determine where the guns and drugs came from, Capt. Michael Schwamberger said in a release.
The incident occurred Monday when GPD detectives were working proactive drug and firearms crime enforcement and stopped a vehicle in the area of State Street and New Road, they said.
During the traffic stop, probable cause was established and the vehicle was searched. During the search of the vehicle, detectives located two guns, ammunition, multiple THC vape cartridges and several hundred dollars cash, officials said in the release.
All four teen boys were subsequently arrested. Two of the boys were 16 and two were 17, officials said. One of the 16-year-old boys and one of the 17-year-old boys were released to their guardians and face charges of illegal possession of marijuana.
The other two teenagers were taken into custody and transferred to an out-of-county juvenile detention facility. Both of those teens face charges of illegal possession of a firearm by a minor and dealing marijuana.
Schwamberger noted officials with the GPD are committed to keeping violence and drugs out of the city.
“We will continue to proactively enforce the laws of our State and prosecute those who violate them,” the release stated. “We call on the parents of our community to know what your kids are doing and who they are with. You are responsible for each and every action they take and you will be held accountable to them. If you have guns in your household, you are responsible to keep them locked up and away from your children at all times.”
Officials noted all charges are preliminary and will be filed with the court by the Hancock County Prosecutors Office upon review. Since all four suspects are juveniles, their names will not be released, officials said.
