School foundation planning gala event

GREENFIELD – The Greenfield Central School Foundation is hosting its annual Red Letter Gala Sept. 30 and sponsorship opportunities are available.

Sponsorship levels range from $250 to $6,000 and must be received by Sept. 3 for inclusion in the program.

School supply event coming up

GREENFIELD – A Back to School Celebration is planned for 11:30 a.m. July 30 at Mt. Comfort Church.

The free community event at the Mt. Comfort Campus, 3179 N. 600W, Greenfield, will include lunch, bounce houses, ice cream, yard games and school supplies. Visit MtComfortChurch.com for more information.

Tri Kappa announces scholarship winners

GREENFIELD – The Greenfield chapter of Kappa, Kappa, Kappa, Inc. recently announced scholarship winners for the spring of 2023.

Sydney Benson of New Palestine High School; and Lael Bickham, Dylan Kistler and Makayla Faulk, all from Mt. Vernon High School, each won a $1,500 scholarship from Tri Kappa. These young adults had impressive resumes and each has shown great leadership and service in both their schools and community, according to a press release.

The group also awarded Cierra Hines of Greenfield the Helen Roath Memorial Scholarship, managed by the Community Foundation of Hancock County. Hines also exemplifies leadership and service in the community as an adult pursuing an advanced degree.

Burhenn graduates from UF

MCCORDSVILLE – Max Burhenn of McCordsville recently graduated from the University of Findlay in Findlay, Ohio.

Burhen graduated with the academic designation of cum laude, having earned a bachelor of science degree in business administration.

Teens to represent VOICE program

NEW PALESTINE – Two New Palestine High School students have been selected as statewide ambassadors for VOICE, a youth empowerment program that celebrates a tobacco-free lifestyle.

Ashley Norton and Blake Hurst were chosen for the statewide VOICE Youth Ambassador Program for students ages 13-18 for demonstrating leadership in celebrating tobacco-free lifestyles and fighting for health equity. They are part of a group of nine Indiana students in the program, selected through a competitive application process.

They’ll receive training and participate in activities throughout the year. The group will design digital content for all of VOICE Indiana’s social media platforms and website and are instrumental in creating programs to build leadership skills, according to a press release. They will also create campaigns that engage youth across the state in honor of Red Ribbon Week, Great American Smokeout, Take Down Tobacco and World No Tobacco Day.
