BALTIMORE (AP) — Logan Gilbert allowed two hits in seven innings, Teoscar Hernández and Tom Murphy homered and the Seattle Mariners routed the Baltimore Orioles 13-1 on Friday night in a game that started 100 minutes late because of rain.

Murphy hit a two-run shot off Greenfield’s Kyle Gibson (8-5) to cap a four-run third for Seattle, and Gilbert (5-4) had an outstanding night on the mound. He struck out just five but induced plenty of weak contact.

“I think when I’m at my best it’s pretty effortless, and just kind of smooth and easy, and that’s how it felt tonight,” said Gilbert, who was perfect in innings three through six. “It’s kind of what we were working on in the midweek bullpen, and happy to take it into the game.”

Gibson allowed five runs and seven hits in three innings. That snapped a streak of 12 games in which Baltimore starters had allowed three earned runs or fewer.

The 2006 Greenfield-Central High School graduate is 8-5 on the season with a 4.30 earned run average. His eight wins ranks tied for eighth most in the American League.

In Friday’s outing, Gibson had four strikeouts, three walks and gave up one home run.

The Orioles are currently in second place in the AL Eastern Division, 4.5 games behind Tampa Bay. They lead in the AL Wild Card standings.

Gibson’s next scheduled start is slated for Wednesday, in Baltimore, against the Cincinnati Reds. Luke Weaver is slated to pitch for the Reds.

Jameson update

Arizona Diamondbacks reliever Drey Jameson, a 2017 G-C grad, threw two or more shutout innings out of the bullpen for the third straight time, Friday, in an 8-5 loss to the San Francisco Giants.

Jameson gave up four hits and struck out two in two innings of relief at San Francisco.

In his last three outings, Jameson has thrown 6 1/3 innings without giving up a run. In that span, he has given up six hits, struck out six and has not walked a batter.

Jameson has pitched in 13 games, including three starts. He is 3-1 on the season with one save and an this season, including three starts, and a 3.38 ERA.

The Diamondbacks are on top of the National League West Division standings. They are 47-32 and 2 1/2 games ahead of the Giants.
