Wayne R. Eck, Greenfield, a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend peacefully left this earth and entered his eternal home on the morning of June 13, 2023.
Born to Pearl and Lester “Raymond” Eck in Gas City on June 12, 1933, Wayne was one of 4 children. He was proceeded in death by his parents and sisters: Lois Schmidt, Lorene “Lee” Ash Marshall, and Berneda Fisher.
Wayne served in the United States Navy, stationed at Key West, FL, from 1952 to 1956. He was a union carpenter for 50 years, a job that offered him an opportunity to travel the country. Wayne was a skilled woodworker and created many special pieces for family and friends. In his later years, you could find him each morning at a local restaurant with his “breakfast club” and on his back porch watching birds.
On February 10, 1975, he married his wife Ruby and they would share 28 wonderful years together. Ruby proceeded him in death on October 13th, 2003. Wayne is also proceeded in death by his daughters Belinda Eck and Bronda (Eck) Vierling. He is survived by son Brian Eck, daughter Beth Sexton, son-in-law Jim Vierling, grandchildren Jennifer Jones and Deanna Hensley, Ricky Harrison, Courtney Brattain, Jarrod Brattain, Carly Fair, Nikia Sexton and Dakota Sexton as well as 12 great grandchildren. His is also survived by his special friend, Dorothy Hollenbaugh.
Mr. Eck was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church.
Wayne’s quick wit, kind heart, and humble nature will be missed tremendously.
The family would like to extend their thanks to Our Hospice of South Central Indiana for their assistance in his care during his final days.
Visitation will be on Friday, June 16, 2023, from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at St. Michael Catholic Church, 519 Jefferson Blvd, Greenfield, IN 46140, with the funeral immediately following, also at the church.
