NEW PALESTINE – Senior Lily Haeberle received an appointment to the United States Air Force Academy, having secured a nomination from Congressman Greg Pence.
She was one of several students awarded at a recent New Palestine High School Senior Awards Ceremony.
She will join the USAFA Cadet Class of 2027, and Pence called to congratulate her and thanked her for being willing to serve her country.
“I am so grateful to my teachers for everything they have done for me,” she said in a press release after the event. “I will miss them, but I am looking forward to both the physical and academic challenges available at the USAFA.”
She is the daughter of Ben and Laura Haeberle of New Palestine; Laura is a member of the Southern Hancock school board.
“Lily has spent most of her K-12 education as a student in Southern Hancock schools and, as a result, is well-prepared for this next step,” Laura Haeberle said in a press release. “New Palestine teachers, coaches and extracurricular sponsors have created a strong foundation for Lily to build on as she enters USAFA. Challenging academics, including AP and dual credit courses, leadership opportunities through student council, yearbook and National Honor Society, and participation in varsity sports all factored into Lily’s appointment to the Academy.”
