Open air painting event Saturday

GREENFIELD – A Plein Air Paint-Out event coming to downtown Greenfield this weekend, hosted by Hancock County Arts.

The event, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, June 3, encourages all ages to paint outdoors; return to the courthouse lawn by 1:30 p.m. to be eligible for judging and enjoy a lunch. The judge, Kjell Wangensteen, is associate curator of European art at the Indianapolis Museum of Art, and will award monetary prizes for three age divisions. Fortville parade set for June 3

FORTVILLE – The Fortville Ball Day Parade presented by the Mt. Vernon Optimist Club will be at 9 a.m. Saturday, June 3, with road closures beginning at 8 a.m.

The parade route will begin at Landmark Park, travel south on Leland, west on Staat, southwest on Noel, east on Mill, south on Ash, west on Pearl, north on Main Street to Church, then west to Memorial Park for the parade’s conclusion.

Cumberland to host Trails Day

CUMBERLAND – Cumberland Trails Day is forming up 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, June 3.

The annual event includes a painting class, a group bike ride and activities specifically for families, like a nature art activity, nature scavenger hunt, storytime and more. The free event is in Lions Park, 301 Buck Creek Road, Cumberland.

Free concert at HCPL Tuesday

GREENFIELD – Singer/songwriter duo Mank & Sass will perform at 6:30 p.m. June 6 at the Hancock County Public Library in Greenfield.

Mank & Sass play covers as well as their original material at most shows, with Aretha Franklin or Stevie Wonder one moment, then some Red Hot Chili Peppers the next. They have a fondness for ’90s hip-hop like TLC, Salt ‘n’ Pepa, and Missy Elliot as much as they do for ’70s soul giants like Marvin Gaye, Gladys Knight, and Bill Withers.

The free concert is at the main branch of the HCPL, 900 W. McKenzie Road, Greenfield. Register at hcplibrary.org.

Children’s variety show auditions coming up

GREENFIELD – The new Taste & See Dinner Theatre in Greenfield is hosting a callout for children ages 5-12 to join in its first variety show.

The Greatest Hoosier Variety Show will be July 7-8, and auditions are 6-8 p.m. June 8 and June 9. Children can sing, dance, tell jokes, create balloon animals, play instruments and more; duets and trios are welcome. There will be four practices on Wednesday evenings. The show is part of a new nonprofit group the theater is starting up, called Hoosier Kids Theatre. The show will be at the Taste & See venue, 404 S. West St., Greenfield.
