Greenfield-Central’s baseball team defeated visiting Shelbyville 7-1 Wednesday to get a victory on Senior Night and in its final Hoosier Heritage Conference game of the season.

The Cougars scored five runs in the third inning.

Jaden Markus picked up the complete game victory. He struck out 10.

Elliot Thresh and AJ Oden each drove in two runs, Grant Shepherd and AJ Oden each had two hits. Shepherd hit two doubles and Oden doubled as well.

Greenfield-Central is 13-9-2. The Cougars finished fourth in the HHC with a 9-5 mark.

G-C travels to Warren Central today.

Dragons drop HHC finale

New Palestine’s baseball team finished its Hoosier Heritage Conference season with a 3-2 loss to visiting New Castle Wednesday.

The Dragons are 18-8 overall and 9-5 in the HHC, finishing in third place.

On Wednesday, the Dragons led 2-0. The Trojans tied it with two fourth-inning runs. They went ahead with a run in the fifth.

For the Dragons, Jacob Morris and Wes Stiller each had two hits. Morris and Blaine Nunnally had RBIs.

Brayden Marrow suffered the loss on the mound. He threw six innings and struck out 10. He gave up three hits, two walks and two earned runs.

New Palestine is scheduled to play at Greenwood today.

EH wins MEC game

On Tuesday, Eastern Hancock’s baseball team picked up a 5-2 Mid-Eastern Conference win over Wes-Del, at home.

The Royals are 9-14 and 3-5 and in seventh place in the MEC. They broke a 2-2 tie with a three-run sixth inning.

Caleb Retherford and CJ Titara both drove in two runs. Colton Dishman hit two doubles.

On the mound, Chase Stewart went the distance to pick up the win. He struck out four and gave up six hits and three walks.

Eastern Hancock travels to Muncie Burris today.

Softball

Mt. Vernon wins sixth straight

The Mt. Vernon softball team extended its winning streak to six games with a 12-2 victory at Warren Central.

Shelby Rakosky and Graci Hines had home runs.

Pitchers Sophie Ruschhaupt and Rakosky combined on a no-hitter. They struck out six, walked five and did not give up an earned run. Mt. Vernon had two errors.

Rakosky, Hines and Maya McNeely each had two RBIs.

Mt. Vernon (14-9) travel to Center Grove today.

The Marauders are 14-9 on the season.

Boys golf

Cougars have best nine-hole round

On Tuesday, Greenfield-Central’s boys golf team had its best nine-hole round of the season, but was unable to beat Pendleton Heights at Hawk’s Tail of Greenfield Golf Course.

The Cougars lost 154-160. Tyler Young had the low round for G-C with a 38.
