Marcella Champion was honored May 7 with her name added to the Cumberland Honors Park display of community members who made a profound impact on the town. Champion served on the Cumberland Park Board from 2004 to 2012, helped start the community’s farmers market and arts festival, was a founding member of the Hancock Harvest Council , and got the ball rolling on the community’s blues and German festivals. She also has ties to Honors Park itself, having taken her grandchildren there to play regularly and noticed the display needed some tending. Her granddaughter said to her, “Mimi, you need to plant flowers here so when I’m here playing you have something to do.” Champion, a master gardener, and her late husband Donald planted a flower bed years ago at the very site her name is now honored.
