GREENFIELD
Derwood Keith Koenig, age 87, of Greenfield, passed away Thursday, May 11, 2023 at Community Hospital North. He was born in Waterloo, Iowa on May 12, 1935 to Mildred M. (Shulz) and Raymond F. Koenig. He graduated from West High School in Waterloo. After high school, Derwood received his bachelor’s degree from Westmar College in Le Mars, IA and later received his master’s degree in organic chemistry from Iowa State University. Before retiring in 1993, he spent his career working as a chemist for Eli Lilly &Co. Derwood was an avid reader of history and archaeology, loved both domestic and large cats, and enjoyed traveling throughout the United Kingdom.
He is survived by his brother, Gary (wife, Marie) Koenig, and many cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mildred and Raymond, and several aunts and uncles.
