County historian re-elected to board
GREENFIELD – Hancock County Historian Joe Skvarenina was re-elected to serve as secretary of the Indiana State Library and Historical Bureau Board. The election was made at the March 31 meeting; he was the governor’s appointment to the board and was nominated to the position by state Rep. Bob Cherry, R-Greenfield.
The Indiana State Library develops collections in the fields of Indiana history and culture, Indiana state government and United States government publications, Indiana newspapers, genealogy and family history resources on Indiana and the eastern United States, Braille, large print, and books on tape for the visually impaired, library science, and American history, politics, and economics. Its collections in these areas support research by state agency employees, scholars, genealogists, librarians, students, Indiana residents who are blind or physically challenged, and the general public.
The Indiana Historical Bureau provides publications, programs, and other opportunities for Indiana citizens of all ages to learn and teach about the history of their communities, the state of Indiana, and their relationships to the nation and the world. The Indiana Historical Bureau also administers the Indiana Historical Marker Program.
Gleaners food provided to Mt. Vernon families
FORTVILLE – Mt. Vernon families can receive food in a drive-through pantry.
The Gleaners/MVCSC Food Bank provides a drive-through food pantry twice a month at Mt. Vernon High School, 8112 N. 200 W., Fortville. The pantry is available to Mt. Vernon district residents only.
Upcoming time slots are 4-6 p.m. April 25; 9-11 a.m. May 9; and 4-6 p.m. May 23. Cars should line up at Door 20 for boxes of dry, non-perishable food, meats and more. Visit mvcsc.k12.in.us/community for more information.
EH Bands to have Culvers fundraiser
GREENFIELD – Eastern Hancock Bands will benefit from a Dine to Donate event coming up.
Culvers in Greenfield will donate a portion of proceeds to the band program. The event is 5-8 p.m. April 25 at the restaurant, 1846 N. State St., Greenfield. No flier is needed to support the event.
Donut Dash 5K coming April 29
GREENFIELD – The annual Donut Dash 5K benefiting Alternatives Inc. is set for April 29 in Greenfield.
Competitive and casual options are open for the event, in honor of Sexual Assault Awareness Month. Register at DonutDash2023.eventbrite.com.
