Viola Mae Jones was known as Vi to her many friends, Mom to her four children, Granny to 10 grandchildren, and GG (Greatest Granny) to her 18 great grandkids passed away on March 3, 2023 in Columbus, IN at 94.
She was known for her matching outfits, purses and shoes, and fresh lipstick, and enjoyed southern gospel music and working in her yard.
Mrs. Jones was born in New Castle In., May 19 1928 to the late Perry and Lettie Viola Selfridge Arthur. After attending New Castle High School, she worked at Guidelamp in Anderson, during World War 2.
While visiting friends in Ky., she met Emil Ray Jones, a dashing young WW2 veteran from Monticello. They married in 1946 and were married for 32 years.
She and Ray had four children: Ray Emil Jones Jr, Lettie Barbara King of Jackson, Tn., Stanley Paul Jones, and Debra Ann Welch of Greenfield. Her husband, two sons, two grandchildren and two great grandchildren preceded her in death.
Mrs. Jones worked several years as a retail clerk in Greenfield, and retired from Greenfield Central High School after 21 years serving as cashier in the school cafeteria.
She was a founding member of Calvary Baptist Church, Greenfield and Buck Creek Baptist Church, Cumberland, both Southern Baptist affiliated churches.
Mrs. Jones enjoyed reading, building puzzles, planting flowers, being with her family, and worshipping her Lord who she is now with in paradise.
Services for Vi will be Monday, March 6, 2023 at 11:00AM at Stillinger Family Funeral Home Pasco Chapel 1780 W. Main St. Greenfield, IN 46140 with burial to follow in Park Cemetery. Friends may visit from 9:00AM until time of service. Memorial contributions may be made in Vi’s memory to the Calvary Baptist Church 1450 W. Main St Greenfield, IN 46140.
