Donations accepted for student meal debt

GREENFIELD – Greenfield-Central Community School Corporation invites the community to help pay for children’s meal debts.

Feed the Future donations will go toward unpaid student meal debts in the corporation. Visit EZSchoolPay.com and create an account or continue as a guest and search Greenfield-Central Schools. Select “Feed the Future Donation” and enter the amount you wish to donate. All donors will receive a digital confirmation receipt for tax purposes.

Casino event set for NPEF

NEW PALESTINE – The New Palestine Education Foundation will host a gala and auction to raise funds for the organization and classroom projects. Casino Royale will take place April 14 at Adaggios Banquet and Conference Center, 5999 W. Memory Lane, Greenfield.

Summer children’s theater workshop coming up

GREENFIELD – Applications for the 2023 Hancock County Children’s Theater Workshop are now available for all Hancock County students currently in grades 4 through 8.

This year’s production is “Hot Rod: Cruisin’ Back to the 1950s,” a boppin’ musical that returns to the world of malt shops, sock hops and hot rods.

About 100 children with talents in the visual or performing arts will be selected for participation. Children must be available between 8:30-11:30 a.m. each day, Monday through Friday, from June 5 to June 30 in order to be considered for the program. The workshop will be at Greenfield-Central High School. Performance dates are June 30 and July 1.

Orchestra students earn honors at event

GREENFIELD – Several Greenfield-Central orchestra students participated in the Feb. 4 ISSMA Solo and Ensemble contest, which was hosted at New Palestine Intermediate School.

Greenfield Central Junior High students Elsie Ketchen, Trinitee Fitz and Jenna Ballenger earned a silver rating for their violin trio; Elly Ferguson, Maddox Redmond, Michael Peterson, Addyson Brown, Matison DeArmond, Will Parker and Maximus Fillebrown earned gold ratings for their solos. Grace Barker, Cailyn Plebanski, Dominic Clark, Isabella Mason, Kensington Diefenderfer, Ava Brim and Alex Lawson all earned gold with distinction ratings for their solos, meaning they came within 1.5 points of a perfect score.

Greenfield-Central High School orchestra results were: Haley McKee, Lila Wagner and Ava Powell earned a silver rating for their violin trio; Haley McKee and Ella Neill earned silver ratings for their solos; Ava Powell, Kendall Schnecker, Dominic Smith and Ella Neill earned a gold rating for their string quartet and qualified for state solo and ensemble, which will take place this Saturday, Feb. 25 at Northview Middle School.

Local students named to dean’s lists

HANCOCK COUNTY – Several students with Hancock County roots were named to honor lists of colleges and universities.

Franklin College announced its dean’s list for the fall 2022 semester. Claire Cherry of New Palestine, Bennett Hanson of New Palestine, Megan Kincaid of Greenfield, Allison Lowe of Greenfield, Maddox Manes of New Palestine, Kaylee Stewart of Greenfield and Samuel Wilson of Greenfield were named to the list, having earned a 3.5 to 4.0 grade point average while taking a minimum of 12 credit hours. Franklin College is located 20 minutes south of Indianapolis and is a residential liberal arts and sciences institution.

Alexandria Knight of Greenfield was among the 2,022 students named to the Samford University dean’s list for the fall 2022 semester. Samford University is a Christian university located in Birmingham, Ala.; the list honors those who earn between 3.5 to 4.0 grade point average while attempting at least 12 credit hours of coursework.

The University of Findlay announced Max Burhenn of McCordsville on its dean’s list for the fall 2022 semester. The list also honors those earning between 3.5 to 4.0 GPA for at least 12 credit hours. The institution is located in Findlay, Ohio.

Preschool open houses coming up

GREENFIELD – Local preschools will host open house events to let parents and children tour schools and ask questions about the 2023-24 school year.
