Sullivan earns honor at national event

GREENFIELD – A local student won Grand Market Champion Goat at a national show recently.

Caroline Sullivan of Greenfield exhibited her boer goat Chip at the National New Year Livestock Show in Woodward, Okla. Dec. 31. She earned grand champion out of more than 300 goats in the show. Sullivan is also involved in 4-H.

Farm conference coming up at Purdue Extension

GREENFIELD – Purdue Extension Hancock County will host a PARP event Feb. 7.

The PARP event, which stands for Private Applicator Recertification Program, will include topics such as weed control, corn research and more.

The event starts at 9 a.m., with registration at 8:30 a.m. at 972 E. Park Ave., Greenfield. Seating is limited to 40 people; register by calling 317-462-1113.

The event is also sponsored by Indiana Corn Marketing Council and Indiana Soybean Alliance.

Master gardener virtual classes coming

HANCOCK COUNTY – Purdue Extension will host a statewide virtual basic training for the Purdue Extension Master Gardener Program.

Live webinars will be Tuesday evenings, Feb. 7-May 9. Topics include plant science, soils and nutrition, invasive species, insects, weeds, animal pests, pesticides, ornamentals, fruit gardening, lawn care, vegetable gardening and more. Weekly local connection hours are available; the time, date and place for the local connection wll be determined by the Hancock County office. For more, email [email protected].

Grazing, soil and more taught at upcoming conference

FERDINAND – The multi-state “Heart of America Grazing Conference” is planned for Feb. 20-21 where forage and grazing experts from across the nation will discuss the latest research in grazing, soil science/health and more.

Registration for the “Heart of America Grazing Conference” is now available at www.indianaforage.org or by sending a paper registration and check to the American Forage and Grassland Council.

Beginning farmer program this week

GREENFIELD – Those interested in starting a farm but in need of some pointers might consider the Beginning Farmer Program, a virtual workshop offered at 7 p.m. this Thursday, Jan. 12 through Purdue Extension.

The workshop will teach on addressing the realities of starting a farm; farming assets; realistic goals; and plans. The program includes eight sessions; cost is $75.
