INDIANAPOLIS
Theresa Louise (Neilan) Matus passed away on December 22, 2022, at the age of 66. Theresa was born in Indianapolis, IN on June 3, 1956, to parents, Thomas Neilan and Mary Jean (Lawhorn) Wollenweber. Theresa attended St. Jude and graduated from Roncalli High School in 1974. She went on to serve in the U.S. Army from 1975-78. After serving in the Army, Theresa went on to earn a registered nursing degree from Old Dominion University in Norfolk, VA in 1989. Upon earning her degree, Theresa enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and served from 1990-93, rising to the rank of Captain. Theresa worked as a registered nurse at St. Francis Hospital, retiring in 2020.
Theresa loved tennis and enjoyed gardening. She will be lovingly missed by her husband, Steve Matus, whom she married on September 10, 1983; her children: Katherine V. Matus, Danielle R. Matus, Meaghan A. Matus and Stephen Matus, III; siblings: Thomas P. Neilan, Mary D. Neilan, Patty Reed, and Jeannie Weliver (Kai); as well as many other loving extended family members and beloved friends.
Theresa was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Mary Jean and siblings: Michael R. Neilan and Daniel K. Neilan.
Visitation will be held from 11am until 1pm on Friday, January 30, 2022 at Flanner Buchanan-Washington Park East (10722 E. Washington St., Indianapolis), where funeral services will immediately follow, beginning at 1pm. Burial will follow services in Washington Park East Cemetery.
