HANCOCK COUNTY — Seven Hancock County volleyball players earned all-conference honors in their respective leagues.
Five county players were named to the recently released Hoosier Heritage Conference team.
Two Eastern Hancock players were selected on the squad from the Mid-Eastern Conference.
In the HHC, New Palestine’s three senior standouts were among the 15 players selected.
Only league champion and Class 4A state runner-up Yorktown (5) had more.
For the Dragons, runner-up in the conference with a 6-1 HHC mark and 25-5 overall record, senior setter Isabella Gizzi, senior middle hitter Reagan Kleiman and senior libero Honour Mallory were named All-HHC.
Gizzi ranked No. 3 in the league in total assists with 856 and led the conference in assists per set with 9.5.
Kleiman ranked No. 1 in the conference in hitting percentage at .378 and was ninth in blocks with 51.
Mallory was fourth in the conference in digs per set with 3.7 and sixth in total digs with 334.
Junior outside hitter Mya Grigsby was the lone Greenfield-Central player. The Cougars were seventh in the league with a 1-6 HHC record and 14-17 mark overall.
Grigsby was second to Kleiman in hitting percentage at .354. She was also second in overall total kills with 394 and in kills per set at 4.1. In addition, Grigsby was one of the conference’s top servers, ranking fourth in aces with 59.
Mt. Vernon was represented by senior defensive specialist Libby Gee-Weiler. The veteran back row player led the conference in digs per set with 4.8 and was second overall in total digs with 475.
Yorktown’s Stephanie Bloom was named HHC Coach of the Year.
Other All-HHC selections included, Yorktown’s Addi Applegate, Emilee Hill, Gretchen Moore, Addi Rains and Charlotte Vinson; Pendleton Heights’ Mikala Ross and Ramsey Gary; Delta’s Olivia Morris and Camaya Murry and New Castle’s Ella Young.
Two of 17 members selected All-MEC were from Eastern Hancock.
The Royals finished fourth in the conference with a 6-3 record. Their overall mark was 17-14.
Sophomore Ellie Meyer and senior Sydney Hayes were chosen from the Royals’ squad.
Meyer ranked No. 10 in hitting percentage at .178 and No. 14 in kills with 159. She was tied for fourth in the conference in total blocks with 55 and tied for fifth in blocks per set with 0.6.
Hayes, a setter, was third in assists with 493 and fourth in assists per set at 5.3. She was 13th in service aces with 46. Hayes was seventh in digs with 242 and tied for ninth in digs per set at 2.6.
Wapahani won the MEC as well as the Class 2A state championship. They had four players on the team, Reece Baker, Macie Bowden, Chloe Cook and Camryn Wise.
Others chosen included, Daleville’s Emilee Finley, Lauren Finley and Abby Reed; Wes-Del’s Ella Mauck and Rachel McGlothlin; Blue River Valley’s Maciah Driskell; Cowan’s Josie Byrd; Randolph Southern’s Maliah Adams; Monroe Central’s Maggie Haney; Shenandoah’s Kayla Muterspaugh and Union’s Honour Ellis.
