Dragons open with victory

Led by three double-figure scorers, New Palestine won its girls basketball opener 52-32 at Connersville Thursday.

Isabella Gizzi led the Dragons with 18 points. Kylee Beranek had 11 points and Vivian Miller scored 10.

By the end of the first quarter, the Dragons had a 12-2 lead. Outscoring the Spartans 16-7 in the third quarter, the Dragons extended the lead to 21 points, 40-19.

Connersville was led in scoring by Ahniyah Bennett with 10.

New Palestine is back in action Saturday with a 5 p.m. home game against Batesville.

Eastern improves to 2-0

Eastern Hancock jumped out to a big lead early on its way to a 74-25 victory, at home, over Morristown Thursday.

The Royals improved to 2-0 with the win. They outscored the Yellow Jackets 30-2 in the opening period.

Eastern had five players score in double figures. Grace Stapleton led the way with 13 points. Makenzie O’Neal followed with 12. Sammie Bolding contributed 11 points and Ruby White and Ellie Meyer each scored 10.

Raegan Kleine led Morristown with 10 points.

The Royals are back in action Saturday with a 1:30 p.m. game at Rushville.
