Kyle Gibson made his World Series debut Tuesday.
The Greenfield native and 10-year major league veteran pitched one inning of scoreless relief for the Philadelphia Phillies in their 7-0 Game 3 victory over the Houston Astros at Philadelphia’s Citizens Bank Park.
The 6-feet, 6-inch, 34-year old right-hander entered the game with his team leading 7-0. He pitched the seventh inning and faced four batters. He got Yuli Gurriel to fly out to center field, and struck out David Hensley before Chas McCormick delivered a two-out single. He retired Martin Maldonado to end the inning on a ground out back to the mound.
It was Gibson’s second postseason performance this year. He threw 1.1 innings of scoreless relief in Game 2 of the NLCS against the San Diego Padres. He faced six batters, giving up one hit, striking out one, walking one and had an assist on a putout.
Gibson is a graduate of Greenfield-Central High School. He had 31 appearances, all starts for the Phils during the regular season. He went 10-8 with a 5.05 earned run average.
