Veterans Day programs planned at G-C schools

GREENFIELD – Veterans and the public are welcome to join a free program on Veterans Day, Friday, Nov. 11 at Greenfield-Central High School.

A reception for veterans with light refreshments will be at 1:30 p.m. in the school library; enter through the front entrance of the school.

A program will be at 2:15 p.m.in the high school gym, 810 N. Broadway St., Greenfield. The event is open to the entire community.

A similar program is planned at 2:30 p.m. Nov. 11 at Greenfield Central Junior High School. The event will feature live music performed by the school’s choir and band, with a reception afterwards for veteran guests and families.

Pie auction to raise money or classrooms

CHARLOTTESVILLE – The Eastern Hancock Educator’s Foundation will raise funds for annual teacher and classroom grants at a EHEF Pie Auction Jan. 14 during the home varsity game. The foundation will accept donations of baked goods, homemade pies, candy, craft/homemade items, themed baskets or gift cards for the silent auction. EHHS to launch Alumni Hall of Fame

Charlottesville – Nominations are open now for the new Eastern Hancock High School Distinguished Alumni Hall of Fame.

The award was founded to recognize and celebrate positive accomplishments and contributions of Eastern Hancock High School alumni. Graduates of Eastern Hancock as well as Charlottesville, Westland, and Wilkinson high schools are all eligible for consideration. Recognized individuals will have brought credit and honor to EHHS through their performance, conduct or achievements; their public example will hopefully serve to inspire future graduates to perform and serve in the same spirit.

Stamm earns scholarship from Manchester University

FORTVILLE – Madison Stamm of Fortville has been awarded the 2022 Dewey and Catherine Alspach Mowrer Memorial Scholarship at Manchester University.

Stamm is majoring in early childhood and elementary education.

The endowed scholarship fund was established by a bequest from Catherine Mowrer, who graduated from Manchester in 1926. Manchester University is located in North Manchester and Fort Wayne.

Financial aid workshops coming up

HANCOCK COUNTY – Graduating high school students and adult learners can gain insight on financial aid through a series of upcoming FAFSA Days events.

Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) will be discussed by INvestED Indiana college funding experts, according to the Hancock County Community Foundation. The HCCF, INvestED and Hancock County LINK are hosting the FAFSA days at all four county high schools.

The FAFSA Day for New Palestine High School is 2:30-7 p.m. today, Nov. 1; Mt. Vernon High School, 2:30-7 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 2; Eastern Hancock High School, 4-7:30 p.m. Nov. 8; Greenfield-Central High School, 2:30-7 p.m. Nov. 15; and Hancock County Public Library, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Jan. 21. There will also be onsite scholarship application support for scholarships through the HCCF.

Self care event scheduled for Nov. 9

CHARLOTTESVILLE – The annual Rise Above It self-care event is scheduled for 5:30-8 p.m. Nov. 9 at Eastern Hancock High School.

The event, sponsored by Healthy365 Connection Center, offers space for adults and teens 12 and older to talk about mental health and substance misuse. The event includes speakers, mental health workshops, vendor booths from local wellness services and question-and-answer sessions. For more, visit facebook.com/BeHealthy365.
