MV superintendent to meet with local residents

FORTVILLE – Dr. Jack Parker, superintendent of Mt. Vernon schools, will host “traveling talks” this season.

Parker will be at Foxgardin in Fortville at noon Wednesday, Oct. 26.

He will also be at Sero’s in Cumberland at noon Nov. 26. Parker will host a virtual talk at 6 p.m. Dec. 1. No registration is needed for the in-person events. To sign up for the virtual talk, visit mvcsc.k12.in.us.

Owl program set at nature camp

GREENFIELD – Learn about the world of owls in a family-friendly nature program Nov. 19 at Nameless Creek Camp.

“Take Flight – Wildlife Education” is geared for elementary-aged children but all are welcome. Families will hear a story, create a nature craft and see a live owl up close. The event is 1 to 3 p.m. Nov. 19. Cost is $15 for one registrant; $25 for two; $35 for three; and $50 for four or more.

MV seeks staff appreciation cards from community

FORTVILLE – Mt. Vernon Community School Corporation is encouraging community members to send a “Because of You” card to share kind messages with bus drivers, teachers, cafeteria workers, custodians, assistants and more.

People may fill out a postcard for free at mvcsc.k12.in.us, click on “Community” and “Staff Appreciation Cards.” The card will be printed and delivered to the staff members each month. People may fill out as many staff appreciation cards as they like.

Financial aid workshops coming up

HANCOCK COUNTY – Graduating high school students and adult learners can gain insight on financial aid through a series of upcoming FAFSA Days events.

Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) will be discussed by INvestED Indiana college funding experts, according to the Hancock County Community Foundation. The HCCF, INvestED and Hancock County LINK are hosting the FAFSA days at all four county high schools.

The FAFSA Day for New Palestine High School is 2:30-7 p.m. Nov. 1; Mt. Vernon High School, 2:30-7 p.m. Nov. 2; Eastern Hancock High School, 4 to 7:30 p.m. Nov. 8; Greenfield-Central High School, 2:30-7 p.m. Nov. 15; and Hancock County Public Library, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Jan. 21. There will also be onsite scholarship application support for scholarships through the HCCF.

PTA to host benefit consignment sale

MORRISTOWN – The Morristown Elementary Parent Teacher Association is hosting its semi-annual consignment sale 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 29, with half-price items noon to 2 p.m. The sale is in the cafeteria of Morristown High School, 223 S. Patterson St., Morristown.

Sponsorships accepted for Washington D.C. trip

GREENFIELD – Community members are invited to “Adopt an Eighth Grader” for an upcoming trip to Washington D.C.

The Greenfield Central Junior High School Washington D.C. Scholarship funds half the cost of the eighth grade trip. By sponsoring an eighth grader, more students can experience the trip where they’ll learn history and politics. To learn more, email Sarah Wheeler, [email protected].
