GREENFIELD – The Riley Festival board recently announced winners in the 2022 Riley Festival contests.

Apostolic Pentecostal Church of Greenfield won first place in the parade.

Pumpkin decorating winners were Jenny Caldwell, for the age category over 18; Carmen Gonzalez, 11-17; and Ellie Steinwachs, under 10. Carmen Gonzalez won the viewer’s choice award.

Poetry winners were Marsha Meredith, “Free like a Butterfly;” Larry Sherman, “From Raymond’s Farmall;” and Betty Marmelstein, “Verse from Annie.”

Fine arts contest winners were Sonja Jahrdoerfer, best of show junior; Larry Sherman, best of show senior; Andrew Shoop, best of theme junior; and Brenda Jackson, best of theme senior.

Katlyn Gardner won the Lillian Berry Landscape Award.

The winner of the fourth-grade poetry contest was Lexi Hirsch of Brandywine Elementary School.

In food preparation, champion winners were Linda Parks, Wilkinson, pumpkin bread; Becky Robinson, New Palestine, kahlua truffle; and Sheri Miller, Greenfield, maraschino cherry and pistachio brownies. Becky Robinson won the grand champion award for her truffle.

For food preservation, champions were Cecelia Stephenson, Greenfield, red raspberry jam; Rosalie Hunt, Fortville, dill pickles; Cecelia Stephenson, Greenfield, zucchini relish; Linda Parks, Wilkinson, vegetable beef soup. Cecelia Stephenson won the grand champion award for zucchini relish.

In crafts, champion winners were Charles Collier, Wilkinson, painting “Waterfall;” Joy Gradowski, Greenfield, pencil sketch “A Grandmother’s Love;” Jenna Shaw, dolls and toys, Blue Ribbon Bakery; Griffin Lawrence, Greenfield, coffee table; Elisa Meyer, Wilkinson, paper quilling, flower bouquet; Joannie Bowen, Greenfield, silver and turquoise necklace; Terry Ann Beagle, Greenfield, fabric art, navy jeans denim shoulder bag; Jenna Shaw, Greenfield, recycling, picture made from old jewelry; Mary Driesbach, Greenfield, Christmas, felt Santa, snowman and gingerbread man; Heidi Meyer, Wilkinson, string art jar with flowers. The grand champion was Griffin Lawrence for his black walnut with epoxy river coffee table.

For needlecrafts, champions were Dawn Tripp, Greenfield, crochet, pastel colors scalloped shawl; Nikki Michalek, Greenfield, counted cross stitch bride and groom; Jane Miller, Fountaintown, sewing, two primitive dolls; Jane Miller, Fountaintown, soft sculpture red plaid snowman. The needlecraft grand champion was Dawn Tripp for her crocheted shawl.

In quilting, Gail Failinger, Greenfield, won champion and grand champion in the hand-quilted category for bed-size quilt “Dear Jane.” Jean Hamlon, Indianapolis, won champion and grand champion for free-motion quilted patchwork star quilted coat. Sharon Koepper, Indianapolis, won champion for a tic tac toe quilted game, and champion/grand champion for a computerized machine quilted, appliqued piece “God is the Blessed Controller of All Things.” Koepper also won “Best of the Quilt Show” award sponsored by Hancock County Extension Homemakers. Failinger won the Viewer’s Choice Award and SEK Past Director’s award for “Dear Jane;” both awards are sponsored by Sarah Kesterson.

Riley Festival royalty included “Little Miss” Addilyn Collis, 3 and “Little Mr.” Bentley Thomas, 5. Claire Bishop reigned as queen; Emmy Mills, princess; and Taylor Shelton and Samantha Andis served on the court.
