PARKER CITY — For the second straight week, Eastern Hancock’s football team went right down to the wire.
Unfortunately for the Royals, for the second straight week, they suffered a heartbreaking loss.
Eastern Hancock (3-4) lost 47-42 to Monroe Central in a Mid-Eastern Conference matchup Friday.
The Royals battled back from a 13-0 deficit and led 28-27 at halftime.
Monroe Central scored in the final minutes to take the lead. The Royals moved the ball on the final possession of the game, but turned the ball over on downs.
Last week, Eastern Hancock lost in overtime to Milan.
Against the Golden Bears, Dylan Bowman and Kain Sotelo each had two touchdowns.
“We’re still learning how to win,” Eastern Hancock coach Pat Echeverria said of his youthful Royals. “You have to experience those things before you can really know how to finish. We’re continuing to get experience and I am hoping that is going to pay dividends as we continue through the season.”
The Royals continue MEC play Friday with a home game against rival Shenandoah.
