MOHAWK — Organizers of the Music at Mohawk concerts say the initial summer series was a success and they hope to offer an expanded lineup next year.
“We had a great three evenings of music, and the crowds grew with each evening,” the Rev. Kerry O’Brien, pastor of Mohawk United Methodist Church, wrote in an email. “The musicians were at the top of their games, to the crowds’ enjoyment. The weather was perfect all three evenings, making things that much more enjoyable for everyone.”
The church launched the concert series in June with a performance by acoustic duo Patchwork, made up of husband-wife team Rick and Holly Garrett with folk/bluegrass music. Singer-songwriter Anna Owens performed in July. The series wrapped up in August with The Occasional Blues Band.
Concerts take place at the shelter house west of the church building at 2045 W. County Road 400N. The audience is invited to bring blankets or lawn chairs for seating. The church playground is available to young concergoers.
The shows are free and are meant to be an evening of family-friendly entertainment. A tip jar was available at each concert for donations to the artists.
“We look forward to next season,” O’Brien wrote. “Hopefully, we will have more than one evening a month next year, as all three acts said they would love to return and we have other groups who are already interested in coming in 2023.”
