Koziol scores in BSU win

Mt. Vernon grad Tanner Koziol had six receptions and a touchdown in Ball State’s 31-0 win over Murray State Saturday.

Former Mt. Vernon standout Tanner Koziol had six receptions for 59 yards and a touchdown for Ball State in the Cardinals 31-0 victory over Murray State Saturday.

A 6-7, 230-pound freshman tight end, Koziol has nine catches for 95 yards and two touchdowns this season. He also had a touchdown in BSU’s season-opener at the University of Tennessee.

Koziol played his high school senior season (2020) at Mt. Vernon. For the Marauders, he had 35 receptions for 389 yards and 13 touchdowns, setting the school’s single-season record for touchdown receptions. Ashden Gentry tied the mark during the 2021 season.

For Ball State, former New Palestine all-state defensive lineman Kyle King had a tackle for loss in the win over the Racers.

Roudebush scores TD

Eric Roudebush had five receptions for 46 yards and a touchdown for Hanover College in the Panthers 31-28 loss to Olivet Saturday.

Roudebush, a former standout at New Palestine, is a junior wide receiver for the Panthers.

His 1-yard touchdown reception in the first quarter gave the Panthers a 7-0 lead.

Hook one of Rockets’ top tacklers

Toledo safety Maxen Hook had nine tackles, including seven solos, for the Rockets in their game at No. 3 Ohio State Saturday.

Hook, a sophomore safety from New Palestine, was one of the Rockets bright spots in a 77-21 loss to the Buckeyes. It was Toledo’s first loss of the season.

Hockett records 12 tackles

Taylor linebacker Jacob Hockett had a team-best 12 tackles, including five solos, in the Trojans 41-19 win over Trinity International Saturday.

Hockett is a senior linebacker from New Palestine. For the season, Hockett leads the 3-1 Trojans in total tackles with 33. He has one sack, three tackles for loss and a fumble recovery.

Volleyball

Bulmahn named to all-tournament team

Valparaiso junior setter Victoria Bulmahn was named to the Roadrunner Classic All-Tournament team.

The former Mt. Vernon High School standout has helped her team get out to the best start in program history, 12-0.

At the tournament held in San Antonio, Tex., at the University of Texas San Antonio, Bulmahn had 54 assists and 17 digs over a three-win weekend. She just missed a double-double in a win over Incarnate Word with 20 assists and nine digs.

She had 19 assists and a .463 setting percentage in a sweep of UTSA.

It was the second all-tournament honor of Bulmahn’s career.

Hornaday is frosh of the week

For her performance at the Bellarmine Invitational earlier this month, Gardner-Webb freshman setter Morgan Hornaday earned Big South Volleyball Freshman of the Week honors.

In three matches, the Greenfield-Central grad increased her assist total in each contest, totaling 35, 48 and 51, respectively.

Ceci Bulmahn ties career high

Southern Illinois University freshman Ceci Bulmahn tied a career high for kills, with 15, in a 3-2 loss against visiting Bellarmine Saturday.

Bulmahn had a double-double in the match, totaling 15 digs. It was her fourth double-double of the season.
