Chalkfest coming downtown this Saturday

GREENFIELD – Hancock County Arts Council will host its annual Chalkfest at 10 a.m. Sept. 17 and people are invited to reserve their space online.

The event, in the downtown Living Alley, will feature chalk drawings of sunflowers this year and downtown businesses are also encouraged to chalk their sidewalks. Gina Koorsen is the highlighted chalk artist this year, creating a sunflower piece on the southwest corner of State and Main streets.

Prizes will be awarded to students based on age group; adults; teams and businesses. To register, visit hancockcountyarts.org/chalkfestform.

Family activities, music set for Lord’s Acre Festival

MCCORDSVILLE – The 70th annual Lord’s Acre Festival is happening this weekend in McCordsville.

The event is 4-7:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 16 and noon to 7 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 17 at McCordsville United Methodist Church, 6247 W. Broadway St., McCordsville. Bounce houses, live music vendors, a balloon twister and face painting will be on site both days. Friday features a car show and Saturday features a live animal show and a Touch A Truck event with local public safety agencies. Pink Droyd to perform free concert Saturday

GREENFIELD – Greenfield’s free concert series Live @ The Rails concludes this weekend with a tribute band.

Pink Droyd performs at 6 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 17 at Depot Street Park, 251 Depot St., Greenfield. Greenfield Parks and recreation describes the concert on its social media page as a “North American theatrical Pink Floyd concert.”

Music, pirate activities set at libraries

HANCOCK COUNTY – Several free programs for children and adults are scheduled over the next week at local libraries.

The Fortville-Vernon Township Public Library will host Bongo Boy Drum Circle in two sessions Wednesday, Sept. 21. The drum circle for children of all ages will be at Fortville Community Center, 400 W. Church St., Fortville at 2 p.m. and at 3 p.m. Registration is required at fvtpl.org/events.

At the Hancock County Public Library, several craft and themed events are planned. Celebrate “Talk Like a Pirate Day” Monday, Sept. 12 at a 5 p.m. event for children in grades 1-5. Learn pirate phrases, make pirate crafts and have a pirate snack; festivities are at the Sugar Creek branch of the Hancock County Public Library, 5731 W. U.S. 52, New Palestine.

The Ted Yoder Band will perform a concert for adults at 6 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 22 at the main branch of the HCPL, 9900 W. McKenzie Road, Greenfield.

Arts council to host online auction

GREENFIELD – Hancock County Arts Council will host its annual online auction beginning Oct. 1. Auction items are needed; to donate, sponsor or learn more, visit hancockcountyarts.org, call 317-967-2461 or email [email protected].

Benefit airport event planned

NEW CASTLE– A free Fly In Cruise In is scheduled for 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday Sept. 17 at the New Castle Airport-Marlatt Field, 2912 E. 400S., New Castle.

There will be several airplanes on display, plane rides (weather permitting), and food for sale. Food sales benefit the New Castle Kiwanis Club, which purchases new shoes for children in need around Henry County.
