Dragons impressive in first HHC match

After scoring nine goals in a shutout win over Southport Tuesday, New Palestine’s girls soccer team opened Hoosier Heritage Conference play with a 12-1 victory at New Castle Thursday.

The Dragons are 4-1-1 overall and 1-0 in the HHC.

New Palestine scored eight goals in the first half.

Anna Luker had a hat-trick. Tylar Whitaker and Gabrielle Brown scored two goals each. Other goals came from Rylee Hurst, Allie Blum, Brooke Tanksley, Mia Knoop and Bethany Aldridge.

Izzie Myers and Whitaker had two assists apiece. Other assists came from, Kaylee Beckner, Hurst, Luker and Brown.

The Dragons continue conference play today with an 11 a.m. match at Delta.

Boys soccer

New Pal shuts out Franklin Central

New Palestine improved to 4-1 on the season with a 2-0 victory at Franklin Central Thursday.

Freshman Cole Christopher and junior Elliott Canova had the Dragons’ goals. Canova had an assist on Christopher’s score.

Christopher scored his goal in the 18th minute. Canova got his in the second half in the 68th minute.

Blake Bobrow was the winning goalkeeper.

All four of New Palestine’s wins have come on the road.

The Dragons travel to Lawrence Central today for a 12:30 p.m. contest.

On Tuesday, they will play host to Hancock County and Hoosier Heritage Conference rival Mt. Vernon. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.

Boys tennis

Dragon netters sweep Raiders

New Palestine’s boys tennis team improved to 2-5 with a 5-0 victory over visiting Shenandoah on Thursday.

At No. 1 singles, Moses Haynes won 6-1, 6-1. At No. 2, Arjomand Khokhar was victorious by the score of 6-1, 6-3. Brady Torzewski picked up the win at No. 3 with a straight-set 6-0, 6-4 triumph.

In doubles play, Max Havel and Eli Sloan won the No. 1 match, 6-0, 6-4. Will Hahn and Joey McPike picked up a victory at No. 2, 6-3, 6-3.

New Palestine will play in the Noblesville Invitational today.

Mt. Vernon makes quick work of Centerville

Mt. Vernon defeated Centerville 5-0 Thursday.

No. 1 Adam Koon and No. 2 Manny Downs both won 6-0, 6-0. At No. 3 singles, Robbie Moore won 6-2, 6-4.

In doubles, Bryndan Wylie and Matthew Jones won 6-3, 6-1. Tate Cougill and Max Orelup won 6-1, 6-0. The Marauders are 6-1 on the season and will play host to Delta and Shelbyville at 10 a.m. today.

Eastern shuts out Blackford

Eastern Hancock picked up a 5-0 victory at Blackford Thursday.

Royals players only lost three games total in all five matches.

At No. 1 singles, Zeke Dixon won 6-2, 6-0. In other singles matches, both Luke Fletcher and Luke Schilling won 6-0, 6-0.

In doubles play, the No. 1 team of Bryce Wennen and Myles Wennen picked up a 6-1, 6-0 victory. At No. 2, Bo Dixon and Peyton Stephens won 6-0, 6-0.

The Mid-Eastern Conference tournament is 9 a.m. today at Randolph Southern High School.
