GREENFIELD
Dr. Harry E. Counceller, age 82, of Greenfield, passed away Thursday, August 25, 2022 at Hancock Regional Hospital. He was born in New Castle on September 25, 1939 to Greta (Duvall) and Ernest Counceller. He graduated from New Castle High School in 1958. Harry received his bachelor’s degree and master’s degree in education from Ball State University in 1965 and 1969. He later moved to Denton, Texas where he earned his doctorate in Education from North Texas State University.
Dr. Counceller began his teaching career at Blue River High School in Mt Summit, In and continued his teaching career in positions at Lake Dallas School Systems in Texas and IU East in Richmond,In. He then served as Assistant Dean at the Indiana College of Mortuary Science in Indianapolis, In. He retired from Shenandoah High School in 1995 after 17 years of teaching.
Dr. Counceller married Carol (Nicholas) on December 22, 1961 and they celebrated 60 years of marriage last year. They had three children, Mark Counceller (Cindy) of New Castle, Eric Counceller (Onalee) of New Castle, and Leslie Wright (Tom) of Greenfield; grandchildren, Joshua and Rachel Counceller, Michelle Curry, Scott, Skyler, Shelby and Levi Counceller, Jordan, Zachary, Taylor, Brady, Erin, Emily and Cameron Wright; 7 great-grandchildren; sister, Cindy Jackson of New Castle; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; and sister.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 30, 2022, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Erlewein Mortuary &Crematory, 1484 W. US Hwy. 40, Greenfield, IN 46140. A funeral service will begin at 7:00 p.m. Friends may share a memory or condolence at www.erleweinmortuary.com.
