Hughes named outstanding Vietnam volunteer
KNIGHTSTOWN – Marianne Hughes, a member of the Major Hugh Dinwiddie Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, was awarded the “Outstanding Volunteer for Vietnam Veterans” award representing Indiana.
The honor was announced July 1 at the 131st Continental Congress of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution in Washington D.C. Hughes was presented with the award Aug. 4 at a district meeting in Anderson.
Hughes is the only recipient to receive this national accolade twice. She volunteers time and resources in assisting veterans. As NSDAR continues to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the war, Hughes has distributed “A Time to Honor” and welcomed home Vietnam veterans at several DAR sponsored book giveaways. She has spearheaded the collection of comfort items, treats, and games shipped to active servicemen and women.
The next chapter meeting is at 1 p.m. Sept. 3 at Historic Knightstown, Inc., 24 N. Washington St., Knightstown.
