Special Olympics plans bowling fundraiser

GREENFIELD – Special Olympics of Hancock County will host a bowling fundraiser 5-7 p.m. Saturday, April 9 at Strike Force Lanes, 1539 W. Main St. Cost is $25 per team of two for the inaugural Noah Glover Memorial Scotch Doubles event. Ticket price includes three games of bowling and shoe rentals. Greek cooking demonstration scheduled

GREENFIELD – Learn about cooking with Greek herbs in a demonstration today, April 7 by the Hancock County Herb Society.

The program is presented by Ellen Manolopoulos and will feature multiple Greek dishes. The event begins at 6:30 p.m. at Lizabuth Ann’s Kitchen, located behind the James Whitcomb Riley Boyhood Home, 250 W. Main St., Greenfield. Poetry open mic night set

GREENFIELD – Read your own poetry, share from your favorite poet or simply listen and enjoy at the Riley Boyhood Home and Museum Poetry Open Mic Night. Portrait gallery coming to Twenty North

GREENFIELD – “More Than Face Value” will be the show featured at the Twenty North Gallery in the month of April, showcasing Indiana members of the Portrait Society of America. Portraits of a variety of subjects will be featured at 20A N. State St. in downtown Greenfield. The public is invited to the opening reception at 6:30 p.m. April 8. A special event is also scheduled for Saturday, April 9 when artists will be creating portraits of “local celebrities” like Mayor Chuck Fewell. The event is also an opportunity for anyone who is interested having a portrait made of themselves to meet artists.

Graphic novel, comic sale set

GREENFIELD – A mini book sale hosted by Friends of the Hancock County Public Library will be 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, April 9 at the main branch, 900 W. McKenzie Road, Greenfield. Featured is gently-used anime, manga and graphic novels; proceeds from the sale benefit programs and events at the library. Visit hcplibrary.org for more.

Hancock County represented in walking tour

INDIANAPOLIS – Hancock County is represented in a 92-county Walking Tour starting 11 a.m. April 29 at the Indiana State Museum. Each county is represented in sculptures on the exterior of the building and in sidewalks; Hancock County’s piece of work, found on a sidewalk, depicts the words of poetic refrain taking a man’s silhouette and was created in 2001. James Whitcomb Riley is represented through his poetic words and small pieces of turquoise stone simulate his blue eyes. The museum building, 650 W. Washington St., Indianapolis, turns 20 in May and visitors can tour and learn about all 92 pieces of art. Visit indianamuseum.org for more.
