GREENFIELD — Greenfield-Central High School students were abruptly switched to virtual school on Thursday and Friday this week due to a recent surge in positive COVID-19 cases at the school.
Parents were notified of the change through an automated phone call and email that came through around 5 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 12.
The message indicated the change affects only students at the high school, but that all Greenfield-Central school buildings would undergo additional cleaning and disinfecting over the upcoming three-day weekend to combat the spread of COVID-19.
All public schools in Hancock County except Eastern Hancock Middle School reported new cases last week, according to the Indiana Department of Health. G-C had the highest number of infections, with 33.
Students will not attend school on Monday, Jan. 17, in observance of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.
Wednesday’s automated message said that in-school classes are expected to resume on Tuesday, Jan. 18, at the high school.
