GREENFIELD – Kenneth Butler Memorial Soup Kitchen is celebrating Christmas in its usual spirit of giving.
This week, the soup kitchen is giving out gift bags to patrons each day, with different surprise gifts in each one. The kitchen will host its Christmas celebration on Thursday, Dec. 23, when it will also distribute extra food for the holiday weekend. It will be closed for Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.
The soup kitchen’s building is currently partially closed as it undergoes construction work to add in a stair lift. Director Jill Ebbert said a contractor is set to start preparing for the installation within the next week; after that, it should take about a week for the lift to be installed and the dining room to open back up.
Meals are available for carry-out from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 5-7 p.m. Monday through Friday.
