HANCOCK COUNTY — The county’s estimated unemployment rate for October 2021 is 1.9%, down from September’s 2% and October 2020’s 4.1%.
That October 2021 rate is tied with several other Indiana counties for fifth lowest in the state. Union and LaGrange counties have the lowest, at 1.5%, while Howard and Lake counties have the highest, at 4.2%.
Indiana’s estimated October 2021 unemployment rate is 2.5%, down from September’s 2.8% and October 2020’s 5.1%.
The estimated U.S. rate was 4.3% for October 2021, down from September’s 4.6% and October 2020’s 6.6%.
Former GE exec named VP at state economic development arm
INDIANAPOLIS — Tony Denhart has been named executive vice president of talent and workforce for the Indiana Economic Development Corporation effective Jan. 3, 2022. Denhart most recently served as the university relations director for GE Corporate.

In his role, Denhart will report to Indiana Secretary of Commerce Brad Chambers and help connect Hoosier businesses and talent resources including universities, government agencies and resources, as well as community and education stakeholders, to make it as easy as possible for employers to develop robust talent pipelines, meet hiring goals and implement training and development programs.
Coolest Thing Made in Indiana Contest deadline coming up
INDIANAPOLIS — The Indiana Chamber of Commerce’s new competition will crown the Hoosier manufacturer that makes the Coolest Thing Made in Indiana.
Entries for the competition are now being accepted through Dec. 15. There is no entry fee.
It will feature veteran manufacturers to budding entrepreneurs in a Hoosier Hysteria-style, single-elimination tournament.
Winners will be chosen through public fan voting, with the products receiving the highest votes in each matchup moving to a subsequent round. The number of votes received will be reset at the beginning of each round.
To enter, companies must fill out a brief application at www.indianachamber.com/coolestthing.
All accepted into the tournament field will receive recognition.
What’s bound to be a fierce competition tips off in January, and the winner will be crowned in mid-February.
