HANCOCK COUNTY — A motorcycle rider was struck and injured by another vehicle Monday evening, Nov. 8.

A spokesman for the Hancock County Sheriff’s Department said the victim, whose name was not released, suffered serious injuries.

The collision happened around 6 p.m. near the Amazon complex in the 4000 block of West County Road 300N. Riguens Simon, 34, Indianapolis, was turning into the Amazon warehouse area and drove into the path of the motorcycle rider, said Capt. Robert Harris, public information officer for the sheriff’s department.

The person on the motorcycle was ejected and possibly run over by the car, Harris said. Deputies on the scene said they believe the victim’s legs were injured. The injuries, while serious, are not considered life-threatening, Harris said.

The victim was taken by ambulance to the hospital.

Simon was issued a summons to appear in a Hancock County court for operating a vehicle without having received a license, Harris said. Simon only had a learner’s permit through Florida. He voluntarily submitted to a chemical test as a precaution, but drugs and alcohol are not suspected to be a factor, Harris added.

As of late Tuesday, Nov. 9, no official charges had been filed, but prosecutor Brent Eaton said the investigation is continuing.
