GREENFIELD
Jama C. (Green) Mercer, 81, passed away Monday evening September 13, 2021 at Hancock Regional Hospital in Greenfield, Indiana from complications of COVID19. A daughter of the late Glen Raymond and Helen (Jordan) Green, Jama was born in Green County, Indiana on September 6, 1940.
Jama and her family moved to Lewisville when she was two years old and she graduated from Lewisville High School with the class of 1958. Jama worked many years in the cafeteria at Tri High School and also drove a school bus for South Henry School Corporation.
Jama loved being a member of the Lewisville community and it’s people. She always made time to visit and catch up on the latest news around town. Jama could be counted on to volunteer her help for town events and provide food for community luncheons and church functions.
She was a member of the Lewisville Presbyterian Church and the Presbyterian Women’s Association. She has made her home in Greenfield for the past 3 years.
Jama is survived by her daughter and son in-law, Cindy and Kevin Grilliot of Greenfield; her granddog, Jasper; 2 sisters, Glenna (Bob) Stegman of Dayton, OH and Deanna Riggs of New Castle; brother in-law, Paul (Nikki) Mercer of Lewisville; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Jama was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, at the time of his passing, Carey Mercer on December 19, 2017. They were married in Lewisville at the home of Rev. A.F. Burns on November 8, 1958.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. on Saturday September 18, 2021 at Marshall & Erlewein Funeral Home, Lewisville Chapel. Rev. Mick Saunders will officiate. Burial will follow at Lewisville Cemetery. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 4-8 p.m. on Friday September 17th.
