GREENFIELD — Free counseling sessions over the phone are available to Greenfield-Central students through a partnership with the Bowen Center’s Student Assistance Program. College, career fair planned Sept. 14
GREENFIELD — A college and career fair will be held from 6-7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 14 at the Hancock County 4-H Fairgrounds. The free event is open to the public and welcomes any high school students or adults who want to take classes or have a career change. People can walk around at their own leisure and talk with college and career representatives or just gather information.
Scholarship information from the Hancock County Community Foundation will be presented at 6:15 p.m. and 7 p.m. and will include information on eligibility, how to apply and deadlines. The event is sponsored by Hancock County Leaders in Navigating Knowledge (LINK).
G-C schools to hold vaccination clinics
GREENFIELD — Vaccination clinics will be held by the Hancock County Health Department at Greenfield-Central High School, Greenfield Intermediate School and Maxwell Intermediate School on Friday, Sept. 10 during the school day. Registration deadline is noon Sept. 9; parents should fill out a consent and questionnaire at https://patients.vaxcare.com/registration and use the code IN10647.
Vaccines that may be administered include Tdap, Hepatitis A and B, HiB, Polio, Influenza, MMR, Human Papilloma Virus (HPV), Meningitis, Pneumococcal, Varicella, COVID-19 (Pfizer for 12 years and older, Moderna and Johnson and Johnson for 18 years and older). Education sweepstakes program announced
INDIANAPOLIS — A $10,000 Education Sweepstakes program is open this month, the Indiana Treasurer of the State announced. September is National College Savings Month and those who enter a CollegeChoice 529 contest form are eligible to receive funding for tuition.
CollegeChoice 529 is Indiana’s tax-advantaged 529 education savings program. Funds can be used at any eligible school or registered apprenticeship program, both in- and out-of-state. Accounts grow tax-deferred and distributions are tax-free as long as the money is withdrawn to pay for qualified education expenses like tuition, books, computers, equipment and fees.
To enter the sweepstakes, people 18 and older must complete an entry form at www.collegechoicedirect.com/september by Sept. 30. The winner will be randomly selected from all eligible entries to receive a $10,000 CollegeChoice 529 account deposit.
Poetry performers sought for state contest
INDIANAPOLIS — Students and educators are invited to participate in a Poetry Out Loud contest. The Indiana Arts Commission recently announced the event, which is a national arts education program for high school students that encourages the study of poetry and helps master public speaking skills and building self-confidence. The Indiana portion of the competition will be held virtually in March 2022; the champion will advance to the national finals the following month where $50,000 in awards and school stipends will be distributed. Mt. Vernon graduate named to dean’s list
DANVILLE, Ky. — Matthew Rollo of McCordsville has been named to the dean’s list for the winter/spring term at Centre College in Danville, Ky. The honor is reserved for students who maintain at least a 3.60 grade point average. A graduate of Mount Vernon High School, Rollo’s parents are Gregory and Marla Rollo of McCordsville.
