First-responders from the Buck Creek Township Fire Department are aiding hurricane relief work in Louisiana. The department sent six of its eight ambulances, 11 career staff members and one part-time staff member to bolster the recovery efforts. Making the trip were Ellie Clark, Nick Baker, Clayton Garard, Sarah Burgin, Capt. Frank Burgin, Brian Calaski, Zach Zumwalt, Richard Griffin, Phil Spencer, Capt. Richard McFall, Capt. Chad Harvel and Battalion Chief Brad Goff. Hurricane Ida made landfall Sunday afternoon with 150 mph winds that tied it for the fifth-strongest hurricane to ever hit the mainland U.S. The storm caused catastrophic damage, and nearly half of utility customers in southeast Louisiana were still without power on Thursday, Sept. 2, amid sweltering heat.
