The Hancock County Health Department inspects restaurants four times annually and violations are determined as “C” for critical, “NC” for noncritical and “R” for repeated violations. The following inspections are based on information obtained from Retail Food Inspection reports.

Aug. 4

Greenfield Nutrition

Location: 858 S. State St., Greenfield

Type of inspection: routine

Violations found: NC – no paper towels provided at hand sink in restroom; corrected. NC – toilet bowl in restroom has debris on the sides; to be corrected by Aug. 18. C – sanitizer used for dishes needs to have directions for sanitizing food contact surfaces on label; corrected. C – food contact surface of blender has debris even though it was cleaned; corrected. NC – need to cover or replace wood under ice machine; to be corrected by Aug. 18.

Wings Etc.

Location: 1925 Melody Lane, Greenfield

Type of inspection: routine

Violations found: NC – glasses need to completely air dry before stacking; corrected. NC – to-go cup lids need to be protected in original sleeves or dispenser; to be corrected by Aug. 23. NC – walk-in freezer has ice build-up, repair to be called in; to be corrected by Aug. 20.

Los Maguelles Mexican Restaurant

Location: 222 S. Main St., Fortville

Type of inspection: routine

Violations found: C – dish machine not dispensing sanitizer; use three-compartment sink until repaired; corrected. C – queso sauce needs to be held at 135 degrees, currently at 120 degrees, corrected. NC – debris build-up on floors under some equipment; to be corrected by Aug. 23. NC – no paper towels at hand sink in kitchen; corrected. NC – no hand soap at sink in bar area; to be corrected by Aug. 10.

Location: 1508 N. State St., Greenfield

Type of inspection: routine

Violations found: C – sliced cheese on sandwich prep line is above 41 degrees; corrected. NC – filters in hood are not properly installed; to be corrected by Aug. 15.

Popeye’s Louisiana Kitchen

Location: 1981 N. State St., Greenfield

Type of inspection: routine

Violations found: C – raw chicken pieces on prep line above 41 degrees; corrected. C – some debris on food contact surfaces of containers and utensils that are supposed to be clean; corrected. NC – ice build-up on light and door of walk-in freezer, to be corrected by Sept. 10.

Violations found: C – date marked on bologna in deli case dated for longer than seven days; corrected. NC – small amount of ice build-up in walk-in freezer that stores meat; to be corrected by Sept. 12. C – employee observed going into walk-in freezer with food handling gloves on, handling box with food product and then touching food; corrected.

Aug. 12

Ben’s Friendly Bar

Location: 307 Railroad St., Shirley

Type of inspection: routine

Violations found: NC – repair hand sink, three-compartment sink should not be used for hand washing; to be corrected by Sept. 12. NC – ice machine has some mold build-up; to be corrected by Sept. 16. NC – repair floors so as to be smooth, cleanable and non-absorbent; to be corrected by Oct. 28.

Eagle 2 Petroleum, LLC

Location: 407 Main St., Shirley

Type of inspection: routine

Violation found: NC – wall at mop sink has paint coming off; to be corrected by Sept. 9.

Location: 7724 Depot St., McCordsville

Type of inspection: routine

Violations found: C – dish machine not dispensing sanitizer, repair called in and corrected. NC – restroom doors need to self-close; parts ordered; to be corrected by Sept. 1. NC – need to protect outer openings; to be corrected by Sept. 1.

Aug. 16

KFC

Location: 1604 N. State St., Greenfield

Type of inspection: routine

Violations found: C – employee touching buttons in raw chicken frying area then coming into area where ready-to-eat food is dispensed without changing gloves or washing; corrected. NC – some areas of floor under equipment have debris and grease build-up; to be corrected by Aug. 23. NC – some carts, trays, equipment legs and wheels have debris build-up; to be corrected by Aug. 23. NC – need to seal areas at wall in walk-in chicken cooler; to be corrected by Aug. 30. NC, R – seal of walk-in freezer needs to be replaced.
