June H. Steinwachs, 92, of Carthage, passed away Wednesday, August 4, 2021 at Hancock Regional Hospital. She was born June 15, 1929 in Reading, PA the daughter of Edmund and Eva (Hill) Dry.

June was runner-up for Miss Pennsylvania in 1948. This achievement led her to Hollywood where she appeared in several films including “Babes in Toyland” and “What a Secretary”. She was named Miss Secretary in 1949 and was secretary for Ronald Reagan. June relocated to Washington D.C. where she served as a secretary at the Pentagon from 1951-1955, married the husband to her children and moved to Indiana. She had a strong love for music, played piano, was awarded several singing awards and instilled music in her children. She was involved in several musicals while she was in Washington D.C. During this time she made demo records that included the “Devil Moon”, and auditioned for the Lawrence Welk Show Champagne Lady. June was a long time member of Faith Lutheran Church in Greenfield.

She is survived by her children, Shirley “Lee” (Edward) Pogue of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, David Steinwachs (fianc?, Delana Chafin) of Indianapolis, Lindsey (Darlene) Steinwachs of Carthage, Debbie Castle (significant other, Bill Reasor) of Fortville, and Gary (Kristine) Steinwachs Spotsylvania, VA; 12 grandchildren; and 20 great grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by a son, Ed Johnson, and grandson, Justin Steinwachs.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 6:00 PM Saturday, August 7, 2021 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service, Knightstown Chapel. Visitation will be from 4-6 PM.
