HANCOCK COUNTY — Law enforcement officials from Boone County looking to make a field visit on a man on probation — one they suspected was selling drugs while staying in Hancock County — found what they were looking for and more.
Deputies from the Hancock County Sheriff’s Department assisted during a visit to the home in the 4600 block of Fortville Pike on Tuesday, July 27. Local officials ended up arresting two people after finding a variety of drugs, loaded firearms and a large sum of cash at the residence, police said.
Gavin William Pine, 24, Greenfield, was advertising drugs via social media using videos and photos, including one photo with the caption “Come get ya weed n needs from you’re (sic) Favorite dealer,” a probable cause affidavit said.
Pine told investigators he had been on home detention for about about two months for previous crimes out of Boone County, including robbery; possession of a controlled substance; and resisting law enforcement, the affidavit stated.
Pine is now facing 12 new charges in Hancock County, including two Level 2 felony counts of dealing a Schedule I and dealing a Schedule II controlled substance; two Level 4 felony counts of dealing a Schedule IV controlled substance and unlawful possession of a firearm by a serious violent felon; two Level 5 felony counts of dealing marijuana and corrupt business influence; four Level 6 felony charges; and two misdemeanor charges.
In addition to Pine, Hattie Mae Reger, 20, Greenfield, who was identified as Pine’s girlfriend, was also arrested and charged with six drug crimes. The most serious is a Level 2 felony count of dealing a Schedule I controlled substance. She’s also facing a Level 5 felony count of dealing marijuana; a Level 6 felony count of maintaining a common nuisance and three Class A misdemeanors.
The most serious charges against the two carries a sentence of up to 30 years in prison.
Investigators in Hancock County already had been conducting surveillance on the Fortville Pike residence and noted multiple vehicles coming and going from it, the affidavit said. They had identified Pine as the resident and suspected drug trafficking was occurring there, the affidavit said.
A search of the home turned up a wide range of drugs, including approximately 600 tablets of hydrocodone; 12 tablets of OxyContin; a quantity of psilocybin mushrooms; and more than 2 pounds of marijuana. The search also turned up more than 20 pounds of vaping cartridges and a quantity of prescription medication.
Investigators also found drug paraphernalia and more than $14,000 in cash, and three firearms also were taken from the residence.
Pine and Reger made their initial appearances in Hancock County Circuit Court on Friday, July 30, where Magistrate Cody Coombs set a $50,000 cash bond on Pine and a $20,000 cash bond on Reger. They both have pretrial conferences set for late September. As of Monday, Aug. 2, Pine was still listed as an inmate in the county jail. Reger had bonded out.
