GREENFIELD — Local students were named scholarship winners at the June 5 meeting of the Major Hugh Dinwiddie Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution.

Jordyn Wickard, Benjamin Brown and Alexa Walker received scholarships from the DAR. Wickard is an Eastern Hancock High School graduate; Brown graduated from Charles A. Beard Community School Corporation and is in his second year of college; Walker, of Carthage, is attending her third year at Butler University.

Several of the members of the group were also recognized at the meeting for having received honors at the state DAR conference. Denise Akers, the group’s regent, was elected president of the regents’ club. Brenda Cotton, vice regent, received outstanding use of a computer for DAR award. The entire chapter received award certificates for the America Mask Project, distributing patriotic material, a patriotic Christmas tree display and monetary donations.

Brenda Cotton gave a presentation during the meeting of recorded veteran stories, mostly from Korea.

Upcoming events for the chapter include its 100th anniversary celebration July 24. Period clothing is encouraged. The group’s Aug. 7 meeting will be its annual outing.
