2 new deaths put county’s COVID-19 toll at 106

HANCOCK COUNTY — Two more county residents have died from COVID-19, the state reported Tuesday, while cases of infections from the novel coronavirus continue to decline.

The fatalities raised the county’s death toll to 106. Both were women who died on Jan. 24, according to information from the Indiana State Department of Health. One was age 80 or older and the other was in her 70s.

Hancock County added 25 COVID-19 cases Tuesday, raising its total to 6,783. Another 256 tests brought that total to 79,004.

The county’s seven-day positivity rates between Jan. 13 and 19 are 11.3% for all tests and 19% for unique individuals. Cumulative rates are 10.4% for all tests and 17.8% for unique individuals.

Indiana added 80 COVID-19 deaths Tuesday, raising its total to 9,432. The state also added 1,777 cases, for a total of almost 615,000.

As of early Tuesday, 6,639 Hancock County residents had received the first dose of a COVID-19 vaccination and 2,017 were fully vaccinated. Statewide, almost 460,000 had gotten a first dose, and almost 107,000 were fully vaccinated.
