HANCOCK COUNTY – Officials from the Hancock County Sheriff’s Office are searching for an inmate who escaped from the Hancock County Jail in Greenfield. Tyrell Deshawn White, 22, Indianapolis escaped from jail officers at approximately 6:30 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 10.
White was assigned as an inmate worker and was taking trash out to dumpsters behind the jail at the time of the escape. Although supervised by jail officers, he was not in restraints and was able to run away. HCSD jail officers chased White for a short time but lost sight of him as he was running south from the jail. HCSD Investigators believe White had someone waiting in a nearby vehicle to drive him out of the area.
White is listed as 5 feet 11 inches tall, weighing 160 lbs. He has a tattoo of an ornate cross on his chest. He is known to use the name of his twin brother, Trayvon White. He was last wearing grey sweatpants and a grey sweatshirt.
White was in the Hancock County Jail after being arrested by Fortville Police Department in July, 2020. He was awaiting trial on charges of unlawful possession of a firearm by a serious violent felon, automobile theft, driving while suspended with a previous conviction, and providing false information during his initial arrest. He was scheduled to go to trial in March.
White also has an outstanding warrant out of Marion County for armed robbery and theft. Investigators with the Hancock County Sheriff’s Office and other assisting agencies are continuing the investigation into the escape.
The public should use extreme caution if White is sighted and call authorities immediately. He is known to be armed, violent, and dangerous.
