GREENFIELD — Karla Whisenand, executive director of Love INC of Greater Hancock County, is stepping down from her post at the end of the year due to health reasons.

Whisenand has been battling Stage III recurrent ovarian cancer since 2011, and has had two recurrences in the past 18 months. In an email shared with Love INC supporters, she wrote that after nine rounds of chemotherapy transfusions, she is now in remission and is starting daily maintenance chemotherapy in January.

“I appreciate everyone’s support and continued prayers as I navigate my way through this,” she wrote.

Stepping down “has been a very difficult decision and one that I wish I hadn’t had to make. However, I need to continue to focus on my health and fighting this disease.”

Deb Weber will take over the executive director role next year. Weber has been a Love INC board member for three years and has been serving as interim director since September.

Whisenand thanked Love INC supporters for their continued support and spoke of how much her time with the organization has meant to her.

“It has been a blessing to serve the Lord at Love INC in Hancock County and getting to know each of you. What an unforgettable experience it has been! May God continue to bless you and yours,” she said.

Love INC works as a bridge in the faith community to connect people in need with community resources.
