GREENFIELD — Greenfield-Central High School students will follow a new school schedule after Christmas break.

The school board approved the revised schedule at Monday’s school board meeting.

Instead of students attending school in person every other day, in addition to a schoolwide virtual learning day each Wednesday, students will now be attending two consecutive days each week.

Students with last names beginning in A-K will attend school in person on Mondays and Tuesdays, and virtually Thursdays and Fridays. Students with last names beginning in L-Z will attend school virtually on Mondays and Tuesdays, and in person on Thursday and Fridays. All students will continue virtual learning on Wednesdays.

The school’s “blue” and “gold”days will alternate each day but Wednesday, when students attend all eight classes virtually.

In an email sent to parents Monday night, high school Principal Jason Carey said the change was made in light of input from parents, students and staff.

“We wanted to see if we could make some minor adjustments to help our students (and staff) academically. As we looked at feedback from teachers and students, this simple switch seemed to be something that was a big improvement for everyone,” he said.

“This schedule should keep some of the items parents and students liked (a consistent schedule week to week), while making the academic changes the teachers think will help students and staff.”
