The Hancock County Health Department inspects restaurants four times annually and violations are determined as “C” for critical, “NC” for noncritical and “R” for repeated violations. The following inspections are based on information obtained from Retail Food Inspection Reports.

Oct. 19

Location: 400 W. New Road, Greenfield

Type of Inspection: Routine

No violations found.

Company Kitchen at Keihin

Location: 400 W. New Road, Greenfield

Type of Inspection: Routine

Violations found: NC — hand-washing sinks in kitchen did not reach 100 degrees, to be corrected by Nov. 19; C — ham was date-marked incorrectly, corrected.

Oct. 20

Subway

Location: 1261 N. State St., Greenfield

Type of Inspection: Routine

Oct. 21

Applebee’s Neighborhood Grill

Location: 1792 N. State St., Greenfield

Type of Inspection: Routine

Violations found: C — employee observed touching food handling gloves before washing hands, corrected.

Violations found: NC — dish machine temperature is only reaching 180 degrees, to be corrected by Oct. 26.

Mt. Vernon Middle School

Location: 1862 W. State Road 234, Fortville

Type of Inspection: Routine

Violations found: NC — walk-in freezer inside latch is not working properly, to be corrected by Oct. 26; NC — water temperature at final rinse is not reaching 180 degrees but temperature gauge reads 185 degrees.

Ben’s Soft Pretzels

Location: 1965 N. State St., Greenfield

Type of Inspection: Routine

Violations found: C — cheese sauce is being held at 122 degrees (needs to be 135 degrees), corrected; NC — need to provide accurate sanitizer test strips, to be corrected by Nov. 1.

Oct. 27

Wendy’s

Location: 2809 N. County Road 600W, Greenfield

Type of Inspection: Routine

Violations found: C — cold holding on line prep table at 155 degrees, employee observed touching controls with food handling gloves after touching raw meat, need to have infection control/health reporting policy in store, corrected; NC — temperature at hand sink did not reach 100 degrees, to be corrected by Nov. 15.

Montana Mike’s

Location: 1945 N. State St., Greenfield

Type of Inspection: Routine

Violations found: NC — to-go cups in waitress area need to be kept in original sleeves and turned over so they are dispensed from the bottom, need to provide hand soap at hand sink in meat cutting room, need to provide thin-tipped food thermometer to measure temps of thin patties and other foods, need to provide test strips, to be corrected by Nov. 3.
