Sheriff Burkhart is the right man for our times, our town

To the editor:

I’d like to send out a great big thank-you to our local Hancock County sheriff, Brad Burkhart. Hancock County residents made an excellent choice in electing him sheriff: experienced, dedicated, professional, level-headed, even-keeled, as well as many other positive traits I’ve, not doubt, missed and am unaware of.

Too, I trust him to shepherd us through this COVID-19 pandemic era, one in which things could go south, as the saying goes, quickly, in terms of public safety, under the right (or rather wrong!) mix of circumstances.

Roughly half of my years growing up — from the age of about 12 to about 23 — were spent living about a mile away from his house. I passed his house on the way to town Greenfield) quite often, and got the chance to observe him as a very hard-working independent farmer, along with his dad and his brothers. In addition, I played Little League baseball with him, if memory serves me correctly. We even graduated from Greenfield-Central High School the same year together, if I remember correctly.

In any event, and finally, although I didn’t get the chance, the opportunity, to get to know him personally, and as a friend (I regret that I didn’t, but hindsight, as they say, is 20/20), I know, beyond any shadow of a doubt, that he is the right man for the job. Period.
